Commissioning Art from Fort Greene Studio
Every commission begins with a conversation, about a place, a person, a feeling or simply a wall that needs something wonderful! Here is how the process works, step by step, so you know what to expect at every stage.
To get started, submit an online form or email art@fortgreenestudio.com
with the subject line "Commission Request – [Your Name]".
You will receive an initial quote within 24 to 48 hours.
The Process:
1. Initial Meeting (15–60 minutes)
Format | In-person (my favorite!), phone or video.
Topics to Discuss | Size of painting, medium (watercolor, oil, etc), framing, timeline, creative vision, budget.
Next Steps | You will receive a final quote within 1–2 days. Painting begins upon payment of a 50% deposit.
Of note –– upon approval, photos or sketches may be taken during the meeting to capture details.
2. The Halfway Point (10–30 minutes)
When the painting is approaching half way finished we can meet (in person or via a high-resolution image).
Together we’ll review progress to approve direction and refine details.
This is a final chance to make any substantial changes to the direction or vision of the piece.
3. The Final Meeting (10–30 minutes)
The final review can be in person or done digitally via high-res image.
This is a great time to request any minor tweaks, as once approved, the piece is varnished and no further changes can be made. \
The final invoice will be issued after this meeting.
4. The Handover
Once the final invoice is paid and the art is fully dried (which can take up to 2 weeks), in-person pickup, Uber delivery or shipping will be arranged.
